Invitation to comment: Draft Sustainable Energy Policy 2010-2020 (closing 5 March 2010)

Late last year (on 21 December 2009), the ACT Minister for Energy released for discussion the ACT’s Draft Sustainable Energy Policy 2010-2020. The draft policy sets out ideas for reducing the ACT’s dependence on fossil-fuel generated electricity with the aim of meeting the ACT Government’s target of a carbon neutral Canberra by 2060. Consultation is now open and is due to close on 5 March 2010 and the purpose of this email is to invite the North Canberra Community Council to submit comments on the draft policy.

Invitation to comment: Pilot Triple Bottom Line Annual Report (closing 26 February 2010)

The Chief Ministers Department is seeking community input on it’s Pilot Triple Bottom Line Annual Report. This report details the economic, social and environmental outcomes of the Chief Minister’s Department for 2008-09. Its purpose is to provide a model for triple bottom line reporting within the ACT Government, and to seek community views on that model. The ACT Chief Minister’s Department would welcome your views on the approach they have taken and invite you to provide your feedback by 26 February 2010.

Invitation to comment: Proposed Wetlands – Dickson and Lyneham (closing 6 Janurary 2010)

The ACT Department of the Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water are soliciting public comment on the proposed Dickson and Lyneham Wetlands Project. The Canberra Integrated Urban Waterways team are working with consultants to design the proposed Dickson and Lyneham wetlands. As well as providing water quality improvements and increased urban aquatic habitat, these water features will supply stormwater to irrigate playing fields in Canberra’s inner north.

Call for Submissions: Electricity Feed-in Premium Rate call for submissions (closing 23 December 2009)

The ACT Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission is seeking public input to the Electricity Feed-in Premium Rate Determination Issues Paper. On 30 October 2009, the Minister for Energy, Simon Corbell MLA, requested the Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission (ICRC) to provide advice to assist with determination of the premium rate paid for electricity supplied by compliant renewable energy generators to the distribution network under the provisions of the Electricity Feed-in (Renewable Energy Premium) Act 2008. The referral is subject to the provisions of the Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission Act 1997.

Invitation to Comment: Information and consultation on the proposed Dickson and Lyneham Wetlands (16 December 2009)

The ACT Department of the Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water is inviting the public to comment on the Proposed Dickson and Lyneham Wetlands. Have your say about the design and facilities including art, interpretive signage, shade structures and bird viewing locations for the project. Invitation to comment: Sustainable future workshop findings report (closing 28 February 2010)

ACTPLA has released the Sustainable future workshop findings report for public comment. The report contains key outcomes from a series of workshops held under the Sustainable future program. These workshops gathered together some of Australia’s leading thinkers, community members and government and industry representatives to draw out ideas on how to make our city and the ACT more sustainable, particularly in regard to future planning. Those ideas are synthesised in the report, which has been released so people in the community can provide ACTPLA with their feedback.

Invitation to comment: The ACT Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Strategy 2010–2014 (closing 28 February 2010)

The ACT Government has commenced a phase of community consultation to further the development of the draft ACT Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Strategy 2010-2014 the ACT’s next Drug Strategy and is currently seeking community input and comment.

Invitation to comment: Reducing Speed Limits around Shopping Centres and Community Facilities (closing 18 December 2009)

The Department of Territorial and Municipal Services is seeking public comment on the issue of reducing speed limits around shopping centres and community facilities to 40 km/h. Background Speed management is a critical component of establishing a safer road system. Reducing speed limits in areas where motor vehicles need to share the road with significant numbers of pedestrians and cyclists is in line with best practice road safety principles.

Invitation to comment: Codification of Change of Use Charge (closing 16 December 2009)

In the 2009-10 Budget, the ACT Government agreed to the codification of the Change of Use Charge system in the Territory. The local consultant Macroeconomics has been engaged to undertake this project.  The consultant team will be led by Professor Des Nicholls of the Australian National University. Public consultation has commenced on the proposed codification process.  A discussion paper outlining the proposed framework, approach and methodology for codification has been prepared by the consultants.
