In July 2009 the North Canberra Community Council approached Senator for the ACT Gary Humphries for direct comment in response to the following article that was published on the NCCC website: ABC News: New ASIO HQ branded ‘barbed wire city’ Senator Humphries replied to the original NCCC email request indicating that he would be making further statements in the next few days. The following notification was received by the North Canberra Community Council: Proposed fit-out of new leased premises for the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency at the New Acton Nishi building, Edinburgh Avenue, Canberra City, ACT The above proposal has been referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works for consideration and report to the Commonwealth Parliament. A discussion paper dealing with priorities for public investment in Canberra City, and its interface with adjoining suburbs, has been released for public comment. The Greater Canberra City Area Coordinated Action Plan 2010 – 2016 Report, which will help the ACT Government develop priorities for investing in improvements to public transport, roads, footpaths, parks and cycleways is open for comment until COB Tuesday 30 March 2010.
