Residents rally against car park proposal

About 60 people gathered at the site of a proposed 20-vehicle car park at Civic yesterday to protest against it. The development, next to Glebe Park, is opposed by residents of the very apartment block it is designed to service. A discussion paper dealing with priorities for public investment in Canberra City, and its interface with adjoining suburbs, has been released for public comment. The Greater Canberra City Area Coordinated Action Plan 2010 – 2016 Report, which will help the ACT Government develop priorities for investing in improvements to public transport, roads, footpaths, parks and cycleways is open for comment until COB Tuesday 30 March 2010. The Report identifies nine explicit targets from 2010 – 2016 related to a range of issues such as traffic management, parking, public transport and infrastructure. ACTION Buses, every 15 minutes – REDEX Trial services commences 16 November 2009

The ACT Government’s trial of a new, high frequency weekday bus service, REDEX, commences Monday 16 November. REDEX buses run every 15 minutes from 7.00am and 7.00pm between the Gungahlin Market Place and Canberra Railway Station in Kingston, via Mitchell, Northbourne Avenue, the City, Russell and Barton. All REDEX buses are low-emission, wheelchair accessible and provide bike racks and on-bus information screens. Travel on REDEX buses is free for the first week between 9.00am and 4.30pm to encourage commuters to use the service in off-peak periods. Crimestoppers: Witnesses sought after City robbery – City (13 October 2009)

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a robbery that occurred in Canberra City yesterday (Tuesday, 13 October). About 8.20am, the female victim parked her vehicle in a car park at the end of Childers Street. She exited her vehicle and walked towards Marcus Clarke Street, before suffering severe head pain. She later awoke in her vehicle to find a sum of cash missing from her wallet.
