Public Forums & Consultation: Supermarket Competition Policy Review (closing 24 July 2009)

On the 16 June 2009 the ACT Chief Minister announced the appointment of Mr John Martin to conduct a review of the current ACT Supermarket Competition policy. Mr Martin is a former Commissioner of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and was involved in the ACCC’s 2008 Retail Grocery Inquiry. Mr Martin will examine a range of issues as part of his review including the relevance of the ACT Government‘s supermarket competition policy in light of the outcomes of the ACCC Inquiry in to the competitiveness of retail prices for standard groceries.

Have your say on GP issues – North Canberra District Forums (23 & 29 June 2009)

A taskforce has been established to investigate GP workforce issues in the ACT. The ACT needs 74 extra full-time GPs to reach the national average of GPs per head of population. There is also evidence that many GPs are choosing to work part-time in their clinical practice, meaning that potentially double the full-time equivalent of GPs may be needed to fill in the gap. ACT Governmrent Gaming Machine Review – submissions sought (closing 17 July 2009)

The ACT Government is considering implementing a scheme to provide for the reallocation of gaming machines in order that they can be spread equitably across the Territory so that people in all residential areas, including in future areas such as Molonglo, would have access to a local club and its community services. The Government has also decided to consider options to reduce the number of gaming machines in the ACT. As part of the Government’s commitment to addressing the needs of students with a disability in the ACT, a Review of Special Education Services in ACT Public Schools is currently being undertaken. The Review will look at research into leading national and international practice in curriculum and pedagogy for students with disabilities. The Review will result in a report outlining options for the future of special education in ACT public schools. One component of the review will be the analysis of current program provision. NCCC Submission to Canberra Airport Draft Preliminary Master Plan 2009

The North Canberra Community Council recently made a submission in response to the Canberra Airport Preliminary Master Plan 2009. The key recommendations from the NCCC submission are: That the PDMP 2009 should be rejected. That a 11pm to 6am night time curfew be introduced in Canberra. That the consultation process should be revised before CIA is allowed to present its revised PDMD to prevent conflicts of interest. The ACT Legislative Assembly Standing Committee on Planning, Public Works and Territory and Municipal Services is seeking public submissions for their Inquiry the Crimes (Bill Posting) Amendment Bill 2008. Bill posting refers to the act of putting up posters, notices or placards on any public property like light poles, walls, trees, bus shelters, fences etc and on private property without permission of the owner.
