Public forums on proposal for ACT Government to buy Calvary Hospital (16/21 October 2009)

You may have heard in the media that the ACT Government has commenced public consultation on a proposed change to the ownership and governance of Calvary Public Hospital and Clare Holland House. The Government and Little Company of Mary Health Care have reached in-principle agreement on the proposed changes and the Government now wishes to consult with the Canberra community about the best way to proceed.  The consultation will run from 1 October to 12 November 2009.  

Concern regarding new ASIO building

If you are concerned about the construction of the ASIO building adjacent to Campbell on Parkes Way and Constitution Avenue, whether because of its size, because of the inappropriateness a security agency in such a symbolic location, or because of the almost total lack of public consultation, then please look at some of the suggestions below as to what you can do, to either turn the tide or to help guarantee better consultation in future.

ABC News: Curfew only solution to airport noise: residents

ABC News is reporting that the Canberra Airport is reacting defensively knowing that it has issues regarding noise from its proposed 24 hour freight hub. Whilst the Canberra Airport has published selective information regarding the effects of aircraft noise on a number of areas affecting Canberra and local region, the information is deliberately misleading as it is for newer passenger aircraft and not older, noisier aircraft that are most commonly used for actual freight operations. Watson Woodlands Working Group Update – securing the Woodlands

The Watson Woodlands Working Group recently met with Environment Minister Simon Corbell to seek the Minister’s support to change land use in Horse Paddock 7 in Block 1, Section 86 to ‘Land Use ‘Hills, Ridges and Buffer’ to establish a secure and permanent environmental link between CNP, and Watson Woodlands. The outcome from the meeting was positive and resulted in the Minister writing a supporting letter to the Minister for Planning, Andrew Barr who will be ultimately involved in making a decision on this matter.
