The Majura Festival has been run as an annual event by the Northside Community Service (NCS) since 2000. Since then, it has evolved to a visible cultural event signifying the close linkages that have developed between NCS and the local community. ACT Governmrent Gaming Machine Review – submissions sought (closing 17 July 2009)

The ACT Government is considering implementing a scheme to provide for the reallocation of gaming machines in order that they can be spread equitably across the Territory so that people in all residential areas, including in future areas such as Molonglo, would have access to a local club and its community services. The Government has also decided to consider options to reduce the number of gaming machines in the ACT. Canberra Airport master plan, mixed bag with no real industry support

In November 2008, the Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese rejected Canberra International Airport’s draft master plan on the grounds that it did not provide enough detail on the proposal to develop the airport into a freight hub and the airport’s community consultation had been insufficient. The Minister was quoted at the time as saying “The public have the right to know how this development could impact on their homes and the airport’s response to these concerns has been inadequate.” As a result of the rejection of the original master plan the Airport has had 180 days to resubmit their revised …

Grants of up to $5,000 available under the 2009 Schools as Communities program

The ACT Minister for Children and Youth, has announced that grants of up to $5,000 are available under the 2009 Schools as Communities program Strategic Projects. Schools as Communities is an ACT Government program that works in identified ACT preschools and primary schools to support children, their families and teachers.

Sir John Hackett Essay Competition (Entries open until 15 August 2009)

All young people living in Hackett and in school years 5-12 are invited to enter this competition being held by the Hackett Community Association with the support of local schools and the Australian Dictionary of Biography.  Essays should be 250-500 words long for Years 5-6; approximately 600 words for Years 7-8; 900-1000 words for Years 9-10 and 1000-1200 words for Years 11-12.
