Submission commenting on the Draft Majura Parkway Environmental Impact Statement Report (EIS)

The North Canberra Community Council (NCCC) welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Draft Majura Parkway Environmental Impact Statement Report (EIS). We also appreciate the willingness of the ACT Government to extend the consultation period and to hold the public meeting on 8 July. We believe the level of interest at that meeting indicates that it would be desirable to hold that kind of meeting in future consultation processes ? perhaps towards the middle of the EIS process, when initial views are being formed. Canberra Times: Race to save 'heritage' cottage

The Canberra Times has an article about the demolition and redevelopment of a weatherboard cottage in Ainslie owned by the ACT Department of Housing and Community Services. A developer acting on behalf of the department lodged a development application to demolish the existing building, and replace it with ”two new brick veneer structures”. It is understood that the building was the caretaker’s cottage in the 1920s for the Ainslie bus terminus, one of Canberra’s first transport hubs, but has been excluded from the Corroboree Park Housing Precinct, a heritage-listed area that ends just over the cottage’s fence.

Public information session regarding the Majura Parkway EIS (8 July 2009)

A public information session on the Majura Parkway Environmental Impact Study (EIS) will be held Wednesday, 8 July 2009 at the Dame Pattie Menzies House in Dickson from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. The ACT Government has extended the public consultation period on the draft EIS by two weeks until 13 July 2009. Anyone with questions about the EIS or this significant infrastructure project is invited to attend the information session. Representatives from Roads ACT will be available to answer any questions and to explain this major infrastructure project.

Chronicle: Freight hub still draws ire
