ACTPLA will be holding public information sessions regarding the changes proposed under the Planning and Development Amendment Bill No. 2. The Planning and Development Amendment Bill No. 2 will make a number of amendments to the Planning and Development Act 2007. The amendment bill follows the introduction of Planning and Development Amendment Bill No 1, tabled in the Assembly on 27 August 2009, which made permanent a number of changes that had already been made via regulation. Invitation to Comment: Planning and Development Amendment Bill No.2 (closing 26 November 2009)

ACTPLA has advised that the Planning and Development Amendment Bill No. 2 has been released for public consultation. The Planning and Development Amendment Bill No. 2 will make a number of amendments to the Planning and Development Act 2007. The amendment bill follows the introduction of Planning and Development Amendment Bill No 1, tabled in the Assembly on 27 August 2009, which made permanent a number of changes that had already been made via regulation. Amendment Bill No 2 makes 45 separate amendments that are less urgent and have not been preceded by a regulation. Additional information:

Report from NCCC October 2009 meeting: ACT Cycling and Pedestrian Networks

On 21 October Russell Yell of Cardno, Eppell, Olsen gave a presentation to the North Canberra Community Council (NCCC) on a review being undertaken on ACT cycling and pedestrian networks. The review of Canberra’s commuter bicycle network is part of the Sustainable Transport Action Plan. One of the main priorities of this review is to ensure there is an equal emphasis on the needs of commuter cyclists, recreational cyclists and pedestrians, including visually and mobility impaired people.

Monash Drive to be removed from the National Capital Plan

Multiple local news sources are reporting that the National Capital Authority is expected to announce that Monash Drive will be taken off the National Capital Plan. If removal was recommended by the NCA there would be a period of public consultation before the removal is officially gazetted. NCCC Submission on Australian Heritage Village, Watson – DA 200915605

The North Canberra Community Council recently made a submission in response to the Australian Heritage Village, Watson development application (DA 200915605) The key recommendations from the NCCC submission are that the Development application should be rejected on the grounds of problems identified in the following areas: Apparent improper process Traffic impacts. Impacts on the Mt Majura Nature Reserve
