Major Development Plans – Preliminary Draft Major Development Plan Western Concourse Terminal Extension – Public Consultation 28 April to 21 July 2009

Canberra Airport has released the Preliminary Draft Major Development Plan, Western Concourse Terminal Extension for public consultation. The proposal described in this Preliminary Draft Major Development Plan will result in the construction of a common user passenger terminal development within the current terminal precinct of Canberra Airport. The Western Concourse Terminal Extension adjoins the already approved and under construction Southern Concourse Terminal Extension.

The Western Concourse Terminal Extension involves the construction of a multi-level terminal building of up to 40,000m2. The terminal building will be developed by Canberra Airport to meet the requirements of the travelling public. The proposed building will be designed and constructed to meet Commonwealth Government building standards and performance levels and any applicable specific Airservices Australia and Civil Aviation Safety Authority requirements. Related facilities and services (including but not limited to lounges, cafes, meeting rooms, offices, storage, shops, etc) may be included in the building to meet the requirements of the airlines, Commonwealth agencies and the travelling public.

This proposal, together with the aforementioned Southern Concourse Terminal Extension, will cater for passenger growth expected over the next 15-20 years and cater for international services as set out in the Airport’s 2005 approved Master Plan and the 2009 preliminary draft Master Plan.
