ACT Policing is investigating an incident which occurred in Dickson around 4.40 am today (September 20).
The 24-year-old victim was walking north along the Dickson side of Northbourne Avenue to her home, when she was approached from behind by a male who assaulted her and threatened her at knife point.
The male dragged the victim into a grassed area approximately 15 meters from Northbourne Avenue and proceeded to sexually assault her.
The victim managed to bite the offender on the hand and escape, running onto Northbourne Avenue and flagging down a taxi, then a passing police patrol.
Immediate police patrols of the area failed to locate the offender. The victim described the offender as Aboriginal, approximately 5’9″ (176cm) tall, estimated to be aged between 30 to 40 years, with a slim build, stubble on his face and wearing a red beanie. The offender may also have an injury to one of his hands.
Police would urge anyone who may have witnessed the attack or suspicious activity in the area, or who may know the identity of the offender to contact Crime Stoppers.

Man arrested following Dickson sexual assault

ACT Policing arrested a 41-year-old man last night (23 September) after the sexual assault of a 24-year-old female in Dickson in the early hours of Sunday morning (20 September).
Officers from the Territory Investigations Group and Specialist Response and Security executed a search warrant at a residential address in Harrison about 9.10pm after obtaining forensic evidence from a knife located at the scene of the incident.
A number of items were seized from the residence and the Harrison man was arrested and conveyed to the Regional Watch House. He is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court later today charged with Sexual Assault, Act of Indecency Without Consent and Aggravated Robbery.
