ACT Policing’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision which occurred on Majura Road around 7am today (September 19).
Witness accounts from the scene indicate a tipper truck towing a dog-trailer carrying gravel was travelling north on Majura Road, when a four-wheel-drive travelling in the opposite direction, at high speed, crossed onto the wrong side of the road colliding with the truck.
The driver of the truck was the sole occupant of the vehicle and escaped injury. The driver of the four-wheel-drive was also the sole occupant of his vehicle and died at the scene.
Police have arranged for Supportlink to provide support services to the driver of the truck and the witnesses at the scene.
ACT Policing Traffic Operations continued a speeding awareness campaign throughout Canberra this week, Sergeant Chris Meagher said “It is clear the message is not getting through, obey the speed limit and pay attention when you are driving. If you think you are unfit to get behind the wheel due to fatigue or because you have been out the night before, don’t drive or get some one else to drive for you!”
Police would urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision and are yet to speak with police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Anybody with any information about this crime or any other crime is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Report Crime Online.
