Northbourne revamp plan

The ACT Government has given a glimpse of Canberra’s high-density future in its plans for the Northbourne Flats precinct in the city’s inner-north. A national competition will be launched today to find the architects to design the transformation of the much-maligned public housing complexes into a new and modern 800-dwelling neighbourhood.

A proposal to modify planning restrictions in O’Connor, Lyneham, Dickson and Turner has been released today in a draft variation to the Territory Plan. ACTPLA Chief Planning Executive, Neil Savery, said draft variation 310 responds to the findings of the Legislative Assembly’s Standing Committee on Planning, Public Works and Territory and Municipal Services.

Crimestoppers: Face-fit image released of Lyneham burglary (8 February 2010)

ACT Policing are once again urging Canberra residents to review their home security measures, following a recent spike in burglaries in and around the inner-north suburbs of Braddon and Ainslie. Today (18 February 2010) police released a face-fit image of a male suspect responsible for a burglary in Lyneham on 8 February 2010. Between 7.30-9.30pm, the male offender gained entry to a property on Deburgh Street, and stole an Apple notebook computer, jewellery and some cash.

Legislative Assembly: Discussion Paper to Seek Feedback on Higher Density Residential Development Policies

Today the Standing Committee on Planning, Public Works and Territory and Municipal Services released a Discussion Paper on existing residential redevelopment policies in inner north Canberra. The Discussion Paper aims to inform submissions to the Committee’s current inquiry into RZ3 (Urban) and RZ4 (Medium Density) residential redevelopment policies.
