Talks at the NCCC June 22 2012 meeting were informative. The Greens proposed Rental Housing Bill has been given little likelihood of passing, despite its laudable environmental and social intentions. At the moment only the four ACT Greens members support the bill. Debate in the ACT Legislative Assembly is scheduled for August 2011.
Next meeting of the NCCC Community Council is Wednesday 22 June 2011. Topics include: a presentation by Shane Rattenbury on the proposed Residential Tenancies Bill; and Shannon Savage from AECOM will introduce the Proposed improvements to the Belconnen to City Transitway.

Combined Community Council meeting and forum The second combined community council meeting will be held March 17. The NCCC will be sending a representative to this meeting. A public forum on the community and development will follow on from the meeting. This will start at 1:30pm at the Conference Centre in the Woden Tradies Quality Hotel, corner of Melrose Drive and Launceston Street in Woden. The ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA) has started planning for the new Gungahlin suburb of Kenny, where land release is scheduled to begin in 2012-13. The North Canberra Community Council believes this issue is of interest to North Canberra District residents and will directly impact our region as this new suburb will be directly opposite Watson on the other side of the Federal Highway.
