City to the Lake – Seminars

The ACT Government has announced  the City to the Lake which is a transformational project being developed within The City Plan, and is integral to realising the City’s potential as the ACT embark on its second century. It is about creating a new public waterfront address and identity for the City.  It is about realising Commonwealth Park and City Hill as celebrated urban parks unified with the centre of the City.  The project connects the City across Parkes Way and includes several important civic projects. Submision on Assembly Size

The NCCC has responded the Review into the size of the ACT Legislative Assembly being overviewed by the Expert Reference Group, ACT Elections. The committee has recommended that: The Expert Reference Group should suggest an increase in size to 25 members; the number of electorates should be five; individual electorate boundaries should be decided by the ACT Electoral Commission; the electoral boundaries should be broadly based on community-of-interest ideals. Prior to the 2012 Assembly election, boundary redistribution issues were a major source of community divisiveness.

Lyneham Shops Works Upgrade

The North Canberra Community Council has been informed by letter that the Lyneham shops will be undergoing a small scale works upgrade. The consultant for this is Indesco (consulting engineers). They are seeking community input from North Canberra Community Council members. Preliminary design plans will be drawn up following community consultation which ends on December 21. Examples of small scale works includes such things as pavement upgrades; improvements to drainage and lighting; replacing old furniture or minor landscaping work. Temporary Interruption to Carparking in Dickson

Residents who use the short stay carpark situated opposite Woolworths in Dickson are advised By the ACt Government that due to site investigation work involving a geotechnical study of Block 21 Section 30 Dickson, use of parts of the carpark will be restricted from 3 December 2012. The work to be undertaken by geotechnical engineers will involve access to several car spaces per drill site which will be fenced off for the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
