National Capital Plan Draft Amendment 75 – Australian Defence Force Academy and Royal Military College Duntroon Master Plan has recently been prepared by the National Capital Authority. Written submissions in response to the Master Plan will be considered up until the close of business on 17 May 2012. Task Force aims to attact international flights to Canberra

The Chief Minister has chaired the inaugural meeting of the ACT Government’s Aviation Task Force, which aims to attract international flights to and from Canberra. The North Canberra Community Council believes that resident input is important, because of the possible noise impacts of international flights. In order to clarify the level of resident input, we have asked for a list of the tourism, business, education and community sector organisations that are represented on the Task Force. Constitution Avenue upgrade consultation sessions

Community feedback is invited on the preliminary design plans for the upgrade of Constitution Avenue. In celebration of the Centenary of Canberra in 2013, the Australian Government has gifted $42 million to the ACT Government for the upgrade of Constitution Avenue. This project will deliver major transport infrastructure improvements including a dedicated bus lane in each direction, a separated cycle path, improved pedestrian facilities and a new central median planted with trees.

Bid to store fuel at ASIO site

ASIO is seeking approval to store more than half a million litres of fuel at its new $589 million headquarters in Canberra a street away from family homes. In an application to the ACT Environmental Protection Authority, the spy agency says it wants 660,000 litres of diesel stored on the Constitution Avenue site to run back-up generators. Assessment of the Performance of the Three Branches of Government in ACT against Latimer House Principles

On 15 March 2012, NCCC sent a submission to the Standing Committee on Administration and Procedure in regard to an Inquiry into the ACT Self Government Act. A number of recommendations have been made in response to the assessment of the performance of the three branches of government in the ACT, including that the number of MLAs should be increased, and the ACT Auditor General and Ombudsman should be made Officers of Parliament. The Standing Committee is considering holding public hearings in April to discuss matters raised in the submissions.

Weathering the Change – Draft Action Plan No 2 – Submission

In this submission, NCCC comments on sustainable transport, sustainable waste, renewable energy, gas-fired electricity generation, carbon offsets, and proposed pathways to emission reduction strategies. It grades the five pathways presented in Draft Action Plan No 2 to reach the goal of a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions which the ACT Government has committed to. Read submission »…

Proposed Letter to Federal Minister for Health and Aging

The Hackett Community Association (HCA) has been encouraging the establishment of a pharmacy at the local shops because there are many older residents of Hackett who find it difficult to get to nearby pharmacies due to lack of personal transport, poor interconnecting bus services or lack of mobility.  This had led to a pharmacist leasing one of the shops at the Hackett Shops and commencing to fit it out in anticipation of obtaining approval to operate the pharmacy.
