Review of Canberra Airport Noise Abatement Procedures

Canberra Airport has Noise Abatement Procedures (NAPs) made up of Preferred Runways, Preferred Flight Paths and Noise Abatement Areas (NAAs). As directed by the Minister for Transport, Airservices Australia has undertaken a review of the NAPs. This has been based on 2009 operations. The review includes determining compliance levels of operations with the NAPs, as well as considering the effectiveness of the NAPs and options for making them more effective. Cooyong Street Urban Renewal Precinct: proposed planning changes to land fronting Cooyong Street between Donaldson Street and Boolee Street in Braddon and Reid

The community is invited to comment on a proposal to vary the Territory Plan for the Cooyong Street Urban Renewal Precinct (draft variation 308). The area is currently occupied by the Allawah, Bega and Currong Flats and various church uses. The draft variation proposes to change the zoning and introduce a precinct code which would allow high density residential and mixed-use redevelopment of the site with some retail, community and office space.

ACTION buses re-routed due to Russell Drive closure

Commencing on Monday 5 December 2011, ACTION buses will be re-routed onto Constitution Avenue and down Reg Saunders Way due to the closure of the western end of Russell Drive by the National Capital Authority. All bus stops on Russell Drive, west of Reg Saunders Drive, will be decommissioned. Bus stops along Constitution Avenue and on Russell Drive adjacent to Defence’s R4 building will be maintained. Traffic Lights in Watson

Recently a resident contacted the NCCC querying the placement of pedestrian lights near the intersection of Antill and Knox Streets which he considered were in the wrong spot by some 20 meters. The observation was that few pedestrians will use the lights, the lights will not reduce traffic speeds on Antill St and hence the lights were poorly planned and a waste of money.

More happy campers after EPIC rejuvenation

A rejuvenation program highlighted in the Exhibition Park (EPIC) Annual Report for 2010-2011, will provide more low-cost accommodation for visitors to Canberra, especially school children. As part of the rejuvenation program, the ACT Government has provided $4.1 million for major upgrades to the Budawang Pavilion, toilets and shower blocks, signage and the capture of non-potable water for use on site. Final changes to ACT Legislative Assembly electoral boundaries announced

The final make-up of the ACT Legislative Assembly electoral boundaries for the 2012 election has been announced today by the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Mr Phillip Green. “The Augmented ACT Electoral Commission has decided to alter the existing electoral boundaries by adopting the Redistribution Committee’s proposal to transfer the Gungahlin suburbs of Crace and Palmerston from the electorate of Molonglo to the electorate of Ginninderra.
