Invitation to comment: Proposed Wetlands – Dickson and Lyneham (closing 6 Janurary 2010)

The ACT Department of the Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water are soliciting public comment on the proposed Dickson and Lyneham Wetlands Project. The Canberra Integrated Urban Waterways team are working with consultants to design the proposed Dickson and Lyneham wetlands. As well as providing water quality improvements and increased urban aquatic habitat, these water features will supply stormwater to irrigate playing fields in Canberra’s inner north.

The Chronicle: Strong Support for Wetlands

The September 22 2009 edition of the Chronicle ran a story written by Elliot Woods reporting strong support for the Wetlands proposed for Banksia Street in O’Connor. More than 1000 inner city residents turned up to Banksia Street in O’Connor on Saturday September 22 2009 to back a proposed wetland system supporting native flora and fauna. Inner North SEE Change representative Barbara Chevialier and Edwina Richardson from Urban Waterways were both happy with the turnout for Saturday’s fair. The article is reproduced below:

Inner North Community Fair a success – a thank you from the organisers

We would like to thank you for your contribution to the success of the Inner North Community Fair. The aims of the Fair were to raise awareness of the proposed wetland development on the site and to showcase a range of environmental products and initiatives available to the local community. Over 50 organisations participated on the day. Highlights included the smoking ceremony performed by Wiradjuri Echoes, daleks spreading ecological messages and a clothes swap organised by ACT otherwise.

Inner North SEE-Change: Inner North Community Fair (20 September 2009)

Ginninderra Catchment Group and Inner North SEE-Change invite you to come celebrate Spring and the planned wetland development in Banksia St, O’Connor at the Inner North Community Fair.  There will be a display of the wetland, vibrant entertainers, music, children’s activities including art work to be used on the wetland site, local and organic food, craft stalls, eco and educational stalls and much more.
