Invitation to Comment: Draft Variation No. 302 to the Territory Plan (closing 22 June 2010

A review of the Territory Plan by the ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA) has resulted in proposed changes to the community facility zone, the associated development table and development code. The North Canberra Community Council is concerned that the changes may have a long term detrimental effect on the future of community facility zones. The draft variation is available at www.actpla.act.gov.au under Consultation on the home page. The period for comments closes on Tuesday 22 June 2010. The draft variation has been reproduced below:

The ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA) has started planning for the new Gungahlin suburb of Kenny, where land release is scheduled to begin in 2012-13. The North Canberra Community Council believes this issue is of interest to North Canberra District residents and will directly impact our region as this new suburb will be directly opposite Watson on the other side of the Federal Highway. Invitation to comment: Lyneham Sport and Recreation Precinct DA 200915725 (Closing 23 December 2009)

The Development Application for the Lyneham Sport and Recreation Precinct has been lodged and is now on public notification. The documents are available on the ACTPLA web site. ACTPLA shared a version of the master plan with the North Canberra Community Council and others in August, and ACTPLA thought it appropriate to notify these groups of the commencement of this public notification period.

Campbell residents potentially exposed to loose asbestos

ABC Online News and iPrime Canberra are reporting about potential asbestos exposure for residents in Campbell at the site of a house being demolished. There are disturbing reports that ACT Government agencies (ACTPLA and Office of Regulatory Services – Workcover) have been severely talking down the nature of the risks involved despite the fact that samples originating from the demolition project have been confirmed as asbestos and found in neighbouring driveways, yards and gutters.
