Multiple local news sources are reporting that the National Capital Authority is expected to announce that Monash Drive will be taken off the National Capital Plan. If removal was recommended by the NCA there would be a period of public consultation before the removal is officially gazetted. In the 13 October 2009 edition of the City Chronicle, journalist Elliot Woods writes about the despondency of Watson residents and community environmentalists feel in their unsuccessful attempts to defend precious endangered woodland and buildings around the Australian Heritage Village.
The Watson Woodlands Working Group recently met with Environment Minister Simon Corbell to seek the Minister’s support to change land use in Horse Paddock 7 in Block 1, Section 86 to ‘Land Use ‘Hills, Ridges and Buffer’ to establish a secure and permanent environmental link between CNP, and Watson Woodlands. The outcome from the meeting was positive and resulted in the Minister writing a supporting letter to the Minister for Planning, Andrew Barr who will be ultimately involved in making a decision on this matter.
As I chat with Sher Ward in the new back courtyard of cafe Satis, the space is being decorated by a night-time city skyline and the beginnings of a soil-less garden.
