Monash Drive to be removed from the National Capital Plan

Multiple local news sources are reporting that the National Capital Authority is expected to announce that Monash Drive will be taken off the National Capital Plan. If removal was recommended by the NCA there would be a period of public consultation before the removal is officially gazetted. NCCC Submission on Australian Heritage Village, Watson – DA 200915605

The North Canberra Community Council recently made a submission in response to the Australian Heritage Village, Watson development application (DA 200915605) The key recommendations from the NCCC submission are that the Development application should be rejected on the grounds of problems identified in the following areas: Apparent improper process Traffic impacts. Impacts on the Mt Majura Nature Reserve  

Watson Woodlands Working Group Update – securing the Woodlands

The Watson Woodlands Working Group recently met with Environment Minister Simon Corbell to seek the Minister’s support to change land use in Horse Paddock 7 in Block 1, Section 86 to ‘Land Use ‘Hills, Ridges and Buffer’ to establish a secure and permanent environmental link between CNP, and Watson Woodlands. The outcome from the meeting was positive and resulted in the Minister writing a supporting letter to the Minister for Planning, Andrew Barr who will be ultimately involved in making a decision on this matter.

Federal Environment Minister rejects protection of threatened species on Australian Heritage Village site

The Federal Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts, Peter Garrett AM MP has rejected a request from the Watson Community Association to protect remnant White Box, Yellow Box and Blakely’s Red Gum grassy woodlands on the Australian Heritage Village redevelopment site.
