ACT Policing: 24/7 patrols planned as police gear up for Summernats

ACT Policing is scheduling around-the-clock traffic enforcement patrols of the areas surrounding Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC) and additional patrols of the city’s entertainment precincts over the Summernats car festival period beginning today (Thursday, January 7). Police intend to clamp down rigorously on any irresponsible and/or dangerous driving behaviour and have issued a reminder to all motorists that under ACT legislation, police have the power to seize vehicles for burnouts, menacing driving or street racing on public roadways.

Hazard reduction activities (Watson)

The ACT Government is currently undertaking bushfire hazard reduction work at sites throughout urban Canberra. These include Kaleen (along the corridor running through the suburb); MacArthur Hill in Fadden; along Belconnen Way between Benjamin Way and Eastern Valley Way; and in Watson near Aspinall Street.

Mount Majura Rabbit Control Program

The rabbit control project that began in autumn in the Mount Majura Nature Park has had considerable success, reducing rabbit numbers by about 85% as recorded by spotlight counts. Volunteers mapped rabbit burrows and Parks, Conservation and Land (PCL) staff hired contractors who used the data to locate, fumigate and destroy rabbit warrens.
