Mount Majura Rabbit Control Program

The rabbit control project that began in autumn in the Mount Majura Nature Park has had considerable success, reducing rabbit numbers by about 85% as recorded by spotlight counts. Volunteers mapped rabbit burrows and Parks, Conservation and Land (PCL) staff hired contractors who used the data to locate, fumigate and destroy rabbit warrens. Monash Drive to be removed from the National Capital Plan

Multiple local news sources are reporting that the National Capital Authority is expected to announce that Monash Drive will be taken off the National Capital Plan. If removal was recommended by the NCA there would be a period of public consultation before the removal is officially gazetted. The North Canberra Community Council recently made a submission in response to the Australian Heritage Village, Watson development application (DA 200915605) The key recommendations from the NCCC submission are that the Development application should be rejected on the grounds of problems identified in the following areas: Apparent improper process Traffic impacts. ACT Tree replacement program 2009 nears completion

The ACT Government will soon complete a tree replacement program at 24 locations across Canberra. Under the program 282 trees in poor health and which pose public safety risks are being replaced with 588 trees. Work is expected to be complete by the end of next month. Each of the trees identified for replacement was thoroughly assessed by a tree expert with factors like the presence of die back, tree rot and hollows, as well as their location and general health, being carefully considered. In all cases pruning was closely considered first with complete removal being the last option.
