Last night, I helped launch The Discover Dickson campaign, which promotes the terrific dining and entertainment options that are offered in the area.
Dickson is a high traffic area and the ACT Government’s plan through our Gateway Urban Renewal Strategy is to keep that high level of energy going.
Stage one of the city wide light rail network will offer significant development opportunities in the Dickson area over the coming years. The boost in transportation options and an influx of new residents should see the area thrive.
I was glad to be joined by many local retailers, including the Tradies Club, for the campaign launch. Many of these traders are keen to ensure Dickson maintains its reputation as a bustling hub of entertainment and hospitality.
A comprehensive consultation campaign over the past 12-18 months has given the government insights into the type of development the local community wants in the Dickson precinct. The feedback also showed how to best preserve the current character and style with its mixed use development, people-friendly streets and open public spaces.
Work has already begun on the renewal of Dickson through the redevelopment of a number of ACT Government buildings in the area. The Dickson Motor Registry is surplus to requirements and will be redeveloped as a commercial and residential complex, including a Government Office Building and Access Canberra shopfront.

Very disappointed by the selectivity of the DiscoverDickson compaign.
No mention of the wonderful vegan/vegetarian restaurants (there are a lot of us around) or of any great venues in the Dickson Shopping centre.
