New Traffic lights for Wakefield Ave intersection

The ACT Government will be installing new traffic lights at the intersection of Wakefield Avenue and Dooring Street in Dickson

The Government is investing $822,000 in safety improvements to the intersection, which is adjacent to the ABC’s Canberra Studio. The addition of the new traffic lights would reduce the risk of car crashes and cater for an expected increase in traffic as a result of the redevelopment of adjacent land. Seventy-four crashes were reported at the intersection between 2003 and 2007, four of which resulted in injury.

Local residents and businesses will be well informed about the works, with prominent signs and letterboxed notices about expected delays and closures. It is anticipated that work will be carried out during off-peak times to minimise the impact on the community.

Wakefield Avenue will be closed between Northbourne Avenue and Limestone Avenue/Majura Avenue for the next two weekends – 21 and 22 November and 28 and 29 November 2009 – from 7am to 5pm.

Wakefield Avenue will also be reduced to one lane in each direction during construction. The works are expected to be completed early next year.
