The ACT Government has committed $1.3 million for refurbishment of the Watson Neighbourhood Oval (adjacent to Majura Primary School).

The proposed refurbishments are currently limited to the installation of a new irrigation system, preparation and laying of turf, installation of goal posts, centre wicket, cricket practice nets and a small toilet block.

However, the ACT Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation, Andrew Barr MLA, has indicated he will entertain further improvements, making Watson Oval a ‘showcase’ for innovative neighbourhood oval refurbishment.

In a recent survey of 100 members of the Majura community (Watson, Hackett and Downer) strong support was given to the following refurbishments for Watson Neighbourhood Oval: improved turf/sporting facilities (72%), perimeter plantings/landscaping (70%), adventure playground (54%), BBQ/picnic tables (48%) and walking/cycling track (48%).

What is your vision for this important community asset? Come and voice your ideas directly to the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation, Andrew Barr MLA and find out about the opportunities to get involved and have a say during its development.
