Commonwealth Park will be the place to be on Australia Day with a full program of activities to entertain the whole family right up until 9.30pm.
Highlights include the Great Aussie Day Breakfast, Flag Raising and Australian Citizenship ceremonies, the ever popular Children’s Festival featuring the New Dorothy the Dinosaur Show, great live local bands, BMX and skateboarding demonstrations, rides and activities, free jumping castles and face painting, plenty of great Aussie tucker available and to finish off the day with a bang, the Australia Day Fireworks Finale over Lake Burley Griffin.

Sing Australia Choir Performance | Regatta Point | 9:30AM to 10:00AM | The popular Sing Australia Choir will perform a variety of well known Australian classics. | Free |
Flag Raising Ceremony | Regatta Point | 10:00AM to 10:30AM | Witness Australia’s Federation Guard raise the Australian national flag on the giant Canadian flag pole. The band of the Royal Military College will also perform. | Free |
FA-18 Flypast | Regatta Point | 10:30AM | Be sure to look skyward at 10.30 to catch the awesome speed and sound of 3 FA-18’s as they soar over Lake Burley Griffin. | Free |
Australian Citizenship Ceremony | Regatta Point | 10:30AM to 11:15AM | Join us in welcoming Canberra’s newest Australian citizens. The ceremony will be presented with their official certificate of Australian citizenship. | Free |
Australia Day in the Park | Commonwealth Park | 12:00PM to 6:00PM | A huge day out for the Family with the always exciting Children’s Festival, free jumping castles and face painting with the Gecko Gang, live music from Canberra’s best youth bands, skateboarding and BMX demonstrations from Monster Park, Sydney, a great variety of food and drink and much much more!Program:
9:30am to late – Onsite vendors at Commonwealth Park offer a variety of food. 9:30am to 5pm – The Gecko Gang’s free jumping castles, novelty games, slide balloons and face painting. 9:30am to late – rides and amusements provided by Durkin’s Amusements. (rides require ticket purchase). 12:00pm to 3:00pm – Children’s Festival 3:00pm to 6:00pm – Australia Day Jam 12.00pm to 5.00pm – BMX and Skateboarding demonstrations from Monster Park, Sydney. |
