PUBLIC INFORMATION SESSIONS The Department of Disability Housing and Community Services (DHCS) would like to invite interested members of the community to an information session on a planning study into the potential redevelopment of land in Braddon and Reid. The land in Braddon is currently occupied by Currong Apartments, Allawah Court and buildings owned by the Catholic Church. The land in Reid is currently occupied by Bega Court. On Thursday, 18 March 2010, the acting chair of the North Canberra Community Council, Richard Larson attended a combined community councils meeting. This meeting had been called by the Woden Valley Community Council to discuss a draft amendment bill which Caroline Le Couteur MLA intended to table in the Legislative Assembly. The representatives at the meeting agreed to a statement endorsing the intent of the bill. As the NCCC representative, Richard Larson volunteered to forward the statement to the NCCC committee for discussion and move a motion to endorse the statement. Northside Community Service (NCS) will launch the report Breaking Down the Wall: Barriers to Social Inclusion amongst Older Australians in Canberra on Monday, 10 May 2010. Over the past 12 months, NCS has undertaken research aimed at creating a basis of awareness about various issues affecting social and community participation of older people living in Inner North Canberra. The result of this study is a report that examines the nature of social inclusion among people over 60 years, highlights the key barriers to social inclusion and explores gaps in services. Before going to bed on Saturday night ensure that your clocks have been set back one hour to allow for the end of Daylight Savings which finishes at 2am Sunday morning. Since 2008, the daylight saving period in the ACT has started on the first Sunday in October and ends on the first Sunday in April. This ensures that the Daylight Savings arrangements are aligned with New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
