Volunteers needed for stall at Connect and Participate Expo

Community facilities

Lack of public toilets in suburbs such as Watson and Hackett, exacerbated by closures of toilets and removal of rubbish bins in Downer and failure to reopen toilets at the Dickson wetlands.

Is this a local issue for the NCCC, or a Canberra-wide issue to refer to the Combined Community Councils?

Development Application for a Childcare Centre at the Braddon Bowling Club

Submissions on DA 201426554 (click here and scroll down) “Lease variation – Proposal is to vary Clause 3(a) to add community use limited to childcare centre” are due by 23 March 2015. The proponents also propose “to remove the limitation on the bowling club (to allow club).

The DA is to permit one of the three bowling greens to be converted to a childcare centre fronting onto Farrer St. We have been advised that KU Childcare on the adjoining block is not aware of the proposal. Goodstart Early Learning operates 500 metres away at 41 Torrens St.

Childcare apparently comes under “community use” in the Territory Plan. Community use is permitted under CZ6 as Merit Track [i.e. does not require an Environmental Impact Statement (Impact Track) but approval is not automatic (Code Track)].
