ACT Policing: 21-year-old Reid Man faces court on multiple traffic charges

A 21-year-old Reid man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Monday, June 7) on six traffic charges and a breach of bail after he was apprehended by police driving in the inner Canberra area around noon yesterday.

Police activated warning lights and siren and attempted a traffic stop on the red Ford Laser in Donaldson Street, Braddon shortly after midday. The driver refused to stop, and a pursuit was engaged.

The driver was seen to exceed the speed limit in Elimatta Street and Ainslie Avenue, Braddon, and to ignore two stop signs. Speeds reached around 85km/h.

The driver halted the car in the carpark of an apartment complex in Allambee Street in Reid and ran off, but was apprehended by police a short time later.

The vehicle the alleged offender was driving was found to be unregistered, uninsured and to be affixed with stolen number plates. He was also found to be disqualified from driving until 2014.

He will be charged with offences relating to all these matters, including failing to stop for police and furious/reckless/dangerous driving. He will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning.
