The future of Majura Pines – Have your say

The ACT Government is seeking community feedback on the future use of Majura Pines as a recreation venue in Canberra’s north.

Since the late 1980s, Majura Pines has become a venue for mountain bike riding, trail running as well as other recreational pursuits. Following recent forestry operations and construction of the Majura Parkway, Majura Pines currently has around 10 kilometres of fire trails and short sections of unlinked informal trails providing recreational opportunities for the community.

With construction underway on the Majura Parkway, there is an opportunity to undertake improvements within Majura Pines that will formalise the area for recreation use. To ensure the best possible outcome for Majura Pines, feedback is invited from the community to help develop a draft concept plan for the area that will guide future improvements to the trail network and construction of new facilities in the future – pending available funding.

The plan will identify corridors where a planned trail network can be established as well as opportunities for other facilities that may include parking, toilets, water points, seating, shelter and signage.

The consultation will also seek interest in the proposed establishment of a Majura Pines Track Working Group who would play a key role with on-ground work to maintain the integrity of the Majura Pines recreational area through organised volunteer activities – similar to that of a Parkcare group.
