ABC News: Bushfire Plan

On the 14 August 2009 ABC News reported that the ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) in close liaison with the Department of Territory and Municipal Services and other key government and community stake-holders has reviewed the original ACT Strategic Bushfire Management Plan (SBMP) from January 2005 and is seeking community input on the next iteration of the plan – Version Two. The revised plan will provide an updated and clear guide on the management of bushfire risk in the Territory. ABC News: Drivers stung with parking fee rise

ABC News is reporting the parking fees in Government Car Parks in the City West area will increase substantially from 6 July 2009: [youtube]VAlZd0gmHMA&rel=0&showsearch=1[/youtube] Parking fees for three of Canberra’s carkparks will nearly double from Monday. An all-day ticket at a City West car park, between Marcus Clarke Street and Gordon Street, will rise from $5 to $9.

Roadworks creating problems for Pialligo residents and businesses

The ABC Canberra TV news provided the following report on the impact road construction and upgrades around the airport and entrance to the suburb of Pialligo is creating for residents and local businesses. New park in Acton – Latin American Plaza

The Chief Minister has proposed that a park opened on 25 May 2009 on Childers Street in Acton be known as the Latin American Plaza and dedicated to the celebration of multiculturalism. Heads of diplomatic missions for Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Venezuela, Uruguay, Peruand Brazil joined the Chief Minister on site for the opening, which also coincided with Argentina’s national day, Revolución de Mayo.
