Report: ACT Conservation Council Forum – A Conservation Vision for the ACT's Northen Rim

Deputy Chair of the North Canberra Community Council, Richard Larson attened a recent forum hosted by the ACT Conservation Council on 22 October 2009.  The topic under discussion at this forum was “A Conservation Vision for the ACT’s Northen Rim”. Richard has provided notes from this forum and advises that of interest to all northsiders were the talks on Mulligans Flat and a proposal for a second (northern) national park for the ACT which could also include the reserves on Mt Majura and Mt Ainslie. Invitation to Comment and Public Forums: Review of the Arts in Canberra

The ACT Government, along with consultants Peter Loxton and Associates Pty Ltd,  would like to invite the community to share their thoughts and views on the arts in the ACT through a survey and public forums. Public forums on proposal for ACT Government to buy Calvary Hospital (16/21 October 2009)

You may have heard in the media that the ACT Government has commenced public consultation on a proposed change to the ownership and governance of Calvary Public Hospital and Clare Holland House. The Government and Little Company of Mary Health Care have reached in-principle agreement on the proposed changes and the Government now wishes to consult with the Canberra community about the best way to proceed.  The consultation will run from 1 October to 12 November 2009.  

Small and Micro Business Forum (16 September 2009)

An opportunity for small or micro business owners to give their views to Government. The ACT Government is hosting an open business forum for small and micro businesses. Expert facilitator Jenny Brockie will guide business owners through an open conversation about the challenges of being in business in the ACT. This is an opportunity for you to put your ideas on the Government’s forward agenda. 

Public Forums & Consultation: Supermarket Competition Policy Review (closing 24 July 2009)

On the 16 June 2009 the ACT Chief Minister announced the appointment of Mr John Martin to conduct a review of the current ACT Supermarket Competition policy. Mr Martin is a former Commissioner of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and was involved in the ACCC’s 2008 Retail Grocery Inquiry. Mr Martin will examine a range of issues as part of his review including the relevance of the ACT Government‘s supermarket competition policy in light of the outcomes of the ACCC Inquiry in to the competitiveness of retail prices for standard groceries.

Have your say on GP issues – North Canberra District Forums (23 & 29 June 2009)

A taskforce has been established to investigate GP workforce issues in the ACT. The ACT needs 74 extra full-time GPs to reach the national average of GPs per head of population. There is also evidence that many GPs are choosing to work part-time in their clinical practice, meaning that potentially double the full-time equivalent of GPs may be needed to fill in the gap.
