iPrime: Civic Library shut for repairs after skylight collapse

On 16 November 2009, the iPrime website site was reporting the Civic Library has been closed for repairs after a skylight collapsed. The Library was beset with problems when it first opened in 2007 when a freak storm tore through the City causing significant water damage from rain and hail. After that storm over 1000 litres of water was removed in the initial cleanup, water had broken through ceiling panels and flowed under doors, soaking carpets, books, equipment and electrical wiring in the library. Invitation to comment: Review into ACT’s cycling and pedestrian network (Closing 4 December 2009)

The Department of Territory and Municipal Services (TAMS) is inviting public input into a review currently being undertaken into the ACT’s cycling and pedestrian network as part of the Sustainable Transport Action Plan 2010-2016. The review is aimed at determining future priorities for improving the network, particularly near the City, Belconnen, Woden, Tuggeranong and Gungahlin town centres, as well as major employment centres such as Fyshwick, Hume, Mitchell, Barton/Parkes and the Canberra Airport. The draft plans will be on display from Monday 9 November to Sunday 15 November 2009 at the following locations:

Murky water clouds Civic Pool (TAMS "penny pinching" false economy?)

Megan Doherty, city reporter from the Canberra Times wrote an article in the 5 November 2009 edition of the newspaper about problems being experienced at the Canberra Olympic Pool in Civic. The article hints at economic shortcuts being taken by Territory and Municipal Services (TAMS) as well as indicating that this may be part of a larger plan  to “run down” the pool so that the land may be sold off and reclaimed for other development. Crimestoppers: Police seek puppy thief – Civic (09 September 2009)

ACT Policing is seeking assistance from the public in identifying a male who stole a female cavoodle puppy worth around $1200 from its glass pen in a Bunda St, Civic pet shop on Wednesday afternoon (September 9). Around 4.30pm on Wednesday, a male who had been browsing in the store, Pets Paradise, is captured on CCTV lifting up the black-and-white puppy, putting it under his jumper, and leaving the store.
