The Federal Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts, Peter Garrett AM MP has rejected a request from the Watson Community Association to protect remnant White Box, Yellow Box and Blakely’s Red Gum grassy woodlands on the Australian Heritage Village redevelopment site. In the April 7 edition of the City Chronicle, three members of the Watson Community Association were interviewed by Rebecca Thistleton in regard to the redevelopment of the Australian Heritage Village site. In the article there is a discussion of the loss of woodland, recreational facilities and community space.
As per our previous posting regarding the imminent approval of Draft Variation 261 to the Territory Plan, ACTPLA are now advising that the Variation has been approved and has commenced.
Draft Variation 261 to the Territory Plan was tabled in the Act Legislative Assembly on Tuesday March 24. If the matter is not disallowed within five sitting days, DV261 will be automatically approved.
