ACT Policing: Hot weather raises home security concerns

Police are again reminding Canberra residents of the need to properly secure their homes and property, particularly at night, following rising rates of property crime in and around the suburbs of Narrabundah, Griffith and Kingston. These crimes include burglaries, attempted stolen motor vehicles and property theft, and are often opportunistic in nature, with offenders choosing targets with the least amount of security or the lowest chance of being detected. Superintendent Kate Buggy from ACTP’s Crime Prevention Team today urged the community to apply simple household security practices to reduce their chances of being targeted.

ACT Policing: Drivers urged to slow down as school resumes

ACT Policing is reminding motorists to observe the posted speed restrictions around Canberra’s schools as children return to school this week. ACT Policing Traffic Superintendent Mark Colbran says the 40km/h school zones are designed to ensure that motorists are travelling at a speed which allows them to stay observant and stop safely when required, such as at school crossings and bus zones.

ACT Policing: Police to focus on anti-social behaviour this New Year’s Eve

ACT Policing will provide high-visibility patrols to police anti-social behaviour and alcohol related offences in Civic and across the ACT during the New Year’s Eve celebrations. Around 130 police officers will be working across the ACT to maintain law and order. In addition to normal response capabilities, ACT Policing will be dedicating resources towards the early targeting of underage drinking.

ACT Policing: Image released after Turner robbery

ACT Policing has released a face-fit image of a female offender responsible for an aggravated robbery in Turner on Monday morning (23 November) which left an 87-year-old woman with moderate injuries. The female offender is described as being aged in her 30s, of Caucasian appearance, about 157cm tall (5’2”), of solid build, with a fair complexion and light coloured hair that was either tied up or short in length. She was wearing a fawn coloured jacket and dark coloured full length trousers.

ACT Policing: Assistance sought – unlawful removal of children (16 November 2009)

ACT Policing is seeking public assistance in the search for a 36-year-old woman who has unlawful custody of her two children. Joanne McNoe, 36, unlawfully removed her two children, eight-year-old Liam Shahriar and six-year-old Liana Shahriar, from their school in Ainslie about 2.15pm yesterday (November 16). The woman was last seen walking away from the school with the two children. Police do have concerns for the welfare of the children and conducted extensive enquiries late yesterday, overnight and today. The trio have not yet been located and police are seeking the assistance of the public to help find them.
