You may have already seen the TV, print, and radio or online advertisements for the Measure Up campaign. Measure Up is a joint Australian, state and territory government initiative that aims to encourage Australians to make and sustain healthy changes to their lifestyle, such as increasing physical activity and adopting healthy eating habits, to reduce their risk of some lifestyle related chronic disease. The Federal and ACT Governmenta are encouraging participation in the Measure Up campaign to help raise awareness and important health issues in the North Canberra area. Imminent approval of Draft Variation 261 Watson

Draft Variation 261 to the Territory Plan was tabled in the Act Legislative Assembly on Tuesday March 24. If the matter is not disallowed within five sitting days, DV261 will be automatically approved. North Canberra Community Council Meeting Wednesday, 22 April 2009, 19:30 ACT Sports House 100 Maitland Street, Hackett The North Canberra Community Council (NCCC) is the umbrella organization for Resident Associations and Community Groups in North Canberra. The NCCC is the one-stop-shop for Government and the community to communicate. The NCCC is run by volunteers and membership is free. As a resident of North Canberra you are invited to become a member and participate in committee meetings. Temporary closure of a section of Mount Ainslie Nature Reserve (Hackett Transfer Station)

Director of Parks, Conservation and Lands (PCL), Russell Watkinson today informed Canberrans that the old tip site area (Hackett Transfer Station) within the Mt Ainslie Nature Reserve will be closed temporarily from today, Tuesday 24 March 2009, due to remedial works. “PCL has been made aware of environmental contamination on the old tip site within the Mt Ainslie Nature reserve. The five hectare site is approximately 400 metres east of the Phillip Avenue and Kellaway Street intersection in Hackett.

ACTPLA reviewing provisions – residential mid size blocks (>250m2 to 500m2) in greenfield estates

On the 24th March 2009 at 10:30AM the NCCC received the following email advisory from ACTPLA seeking written comments by 31st March 2009: Dear Sir/ Madam As part of the broader review of the Territory Plan, the ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA) is also reviewing the provisions for residential mid size blocks (>250m2 to 500m2)in greenfield estates. Reduced water pressure due to essential maintenance until 25 March 2009

ActewAGL are advising the following: Until 25 March 2009, ActewAGL is carrying out essential maintenance to the water network that supplies parts of North Canberra. Customers in the suburbs of Hackett, O’Connor and Watson may have experienced a temporary reduction in water pressure over the past two days as a result of this work. The temporary reduction in water pressure will continue until the work is completed mid next week. ACTPLA has announced that Canberrans will have now have access to the latest planning news via a new publication – The Community Zone The ACT Planning and Land Authority Chief Planning Executive Neil Savery said “The Community Zone” would include stories about major planning projects, draft variations to the Territory Plan and helpful tips and information about the planning process.
