From 27 April 2010, televisions will be banned from going to landfill and recycled for a fee at the Mitchell and Mugga Lane Resource Management Centres. The fee will cover the cost of recycling and will range from $15 to $40 per item, depending on its type and size. The scheme will divert around 200 tonnes of televisions from landfill each year and will continue until the National E-waste Scheme is introduced in 2011, which will provide for free e-waste recycling.
Other options for disposing of televisions include donation, second hand and re-useables businesses, internet classifieds or sale. For more information, call Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.
