Last week to have say on review of ACT Year 12 Certificate

Members of the community are being urged to have their say on the first major review of the ACT Year 12 Certificate in more than three decades.

Minister for Education and Training Joy Burch asked the Board of Senior Secondary Studies (BSSS) to review the Certificate last year. Submissions to the review close on 12 May 2014.

“ACT secondary schools produce outstanding student outcomes, with some of the highest levels of educational achievement of all Australian jurisdictions,” Ms Burch said.

“However, the Year 12 Certificate has remained largely unchanged for well over 30 years, and it is time to see if change is needed.

“In particular, I have asked the BSSS to look at whether English and mathematics should be mandatory subjects for our senior students.”
