Invitation to comment: Proposed Sites for New Dog Park (closing 7 December 2009)

Territory and Municipal Services (TAMS) would like to invite you to provide feedback on three shortlisted sites for a new off-leash dog park in inner Canberra.

The ACT Government has allocated approximately $250,000 in the 2009-2010 Budget for the design and construction of a new off-leash dog park within the inner north or inner south of Canberra.

Earlier this year the ACT Government opened two new off-leash dog parks – one in Belconnen off Diddams Close and one in Tuggeranong off Mortimer Lewis Drive. This new off-leash dog park is designed to provide residents of inner Canberra with a place to exercise and train their dogs, as well as socialise with friends.

Three potential sites have been identified. These include Grevillea Park in Russell, Black Mountain Peninsular (between the boat ramp and Garry Owen Drive) and Weston Park in Yarralumla (at the existing dog exercise area on land adjacent to Royal Canberra golf course).

The three proposed locations have been chosen for their suitability against dog park selection criteria. These include zoning as Urban Open Space; sufficient space; easy access; parking opportunities; ability to securely fence the site; potential to irrigate with lake water; proximity to power supply; shade; and an interesting terrain for dogs and their owners to enjoy.

Comments for the new off-leash dog park close on Monday 7 December 2009.

An online survey is availabe for the community to comment on which of the three possible sites they think would be most suitable for the new off-leash dog park and is available to be completed here.

Alternatively, you may print the survey and mail to:
