Consultants Lockbridge and owners Canberra Racing Club in a proposal to rezone parts of Thoroughbred Park.

It would be nice if they could just tell us up front the general area of the Park that they are seeking to redevelop!

The project is in relatively early stages and we are starting to prepare a planning report for consideration by the ACT Planning Authority.

Their project team prefer to start our briefings in early December, with broader community consultation to commence in February of next year.

I think it is not a good idea because it will be noisy from epic and the resistances will complain. You cant move epic and epic is where all the main events are. I personally wouldn’t move there beacause it will be way to noisy because of the events.

It is a such bad idea.
If every where can develop, Canberra will be worst city in Australia.
EPIC is very near and EPIC has all of main event in Canberra.
It makes crazy noises. Who is going to take responsibility for residents complaining. Do we need to move EPIC?
During event too many cars all of this areas.
We have plenty places to build residential houses in Canberra.

It will be very bad case for Canberra develop plan.
They want to earn money with government land.
Government gives the land for sport purposes.
Every sport land want to develop expensive commercial and residential buildings for money.
Why government give land to sports place without proper payment.
Canberra has too much land to build commercial and residential properties.
How about EPIC need to move because for complaints of residents
8t might be a big big problems.

This land was built for sporting functions. However, they now want to turn government sporting grounds to build expensive buildings that only produce them with money. So why develop here out of all places, I’m sure many residents will also complain about the noise coming from EPIC. Which hosts many main events that occur in Canberra. So solely I believe it’s a bad idea.

Do I think racecourse land should be repurposed for development? in short, no. blocks of sporting land should be purposed for just that, sports and recreation for the community. Its abhorrent to see greedy developers seeking to destroy blocks of north-side community purposed sporting land for housing development. not to mention its unfavourable location for residence with epic noise, jockey traffic and noisy 4am training starts. who’s going to take responsibility for all the complaints? relocating epic is certainly a foolish idea

I recall reading about why they are proposing this. It is because the venue is tired and old and they need funds to invest in it. The way the venue is now, it is getting harder and harder to attract customers (Canberrans are getting used to a higher quality of venue). There are already plans to develop the old winery land (now funeral home) Kamberra, and so I imagine it would be on the land adjacent to that development (although I don’t know). I guess if people don’t want development there they have to lobby government to put the investment in.
