Crimestoppers: Three youths arrested after residential burglaries (1 April 2010)

ACT Policing arrested three male youths in O’Connor yesterday afternoon (April 1) after a series of aggravated burglaries in that suburb. Police had obtained descriptions of three teenage males suspected to be responsible for three residential burglaries in O’Connor yesterday. Late yesterday afternoon, a police patrol in Yapunyah Street sighted three males matching those descriptions and carrying backpacks.

Legislative Assembly: Discussion Paper to Seek Feedback on Higher Density Residential Development Policies

Today the Standing Committee on Planning, Public Works and Territory and Municipal Services released a Discussion Paper on existing residential redevelopment policies in inner north Canberra. The Discussion Paper aims to inform submissions to the Committee’s current inquiry into RZ3 (Urban) and RZ4 (Medium Density) residential redevelopment policies. Phone and text messages will be sent to people who live in Turner, O’Connor, Lyneham, Hall and Hume. ACT Tree replacement program 2009 nears completion

The ACT Government will soon complete a tree replacement program at 24 locations across Canberra. Under the program 282 trees in poor health and which pose public safety risks are being replaced with 588 trees. Work is expected to be complete by the end of next month. Each of the trees identified for replacement was thoroughly assessed by a tree expert with factors like the presence of die back, tree rot and hollows, as well as their location and general health, being carefully considered. In all cases pruning was closely considered first with complete removal being the last option.

The Chronicle: Strong Support for Wetlands

The September 22 2009 edition of the Chronicle ran a story written by Elliot Woods reporting strong support for the Wetlands proposed for Banksia Street in O’Connor. More than 1000 inner city residents turned up to Banksia Street in O’Connor on Saturday September 22 2009 to back a proposed wetland system supporting native flora and fauna.
