The Council has received correspondence from the ACTPLA Applications Secretariat in regard to the a possible EIS Proposal: “Sandford Street extension (currently Morisset Street) to the Federal Highway-200900355-600/0 Gungahlin (numerous blocks)” UPDATE: ACTPLA are now advising the following: “With reference to the email for EIS Scoping Document dated 9 November, 2009 please be advised that the applicant is not seeking an s211 exemption as stated in the email. Invitation to comment: Review into ACT’s cycling and pedestrian network (Closing 4 December 2009)

The Department of Territory and Municipal Services (TAMS) is inviting public input into a review currently being undertaken into the ACT’s cycling and pedestrian network as part of the Sustainable Transport Action Plan 2010-2016. The review is aimed at determining future priorities for improving the network, particularly near the City, Belconnen, Woden, Tuggeranong and Gungahlin town centres, as well as major employment centres such as Fyshwick, Hume, Mitchell, Barton/Parkes and the Canberra Airport. The draft plans will be on display from Monday 9 November to Sunday 15 November 2009 at the following locations:

Report from NCCC October 2009 meeting: ACT Cycling and Pedestrian Networks

On 21 October Russell Yell of Cardno, Eppell, Olsen gave a presentation to the North Canberra Community Council (NCCC) on a review being undertaken on ACT cycling and pedestrian networks. The review of Canberra’s commuter bicycle network is part of the Sustainable Transport Action Plan. One of the main priorities of this review is to ensure there is an equal emphasis on the needs of commuter cyclists, recreational cyclists and pedestrians, including visually and mobility impaired people.

Monash Drive to be removed from the National Capital Plan

Multiple local news sources are reporting that the National Capital Authority is expected to announce that Monash Drive will be taken off the National Capital Plan. If removal was recommended by the NCA there would be a period of public consultation before the removal is officially gazetted. Canberra Pedestrian Forum: Submission to Australian Road Rules

The Canberra Pedestrian Forum represents and promotes our rights and interests as pedestrians in Canberra, in much the same way that the NRMA, Pedal Power and the Motorcycle Riders Association represent our interests as drivers and riders. They have made the following submission in relation to the Australian Road Rules 9th amendment package, relating to Rule 232: Crossing a road at traffic lights. The Submission is reproduced below:

Public Consultation: Roadside memorials (closing 16 October 2009)

The Department of Transport and Municipal Services has released a discussion paper and is seeking public comment on roadside memorials which will assist in the development of a formal ACT Government policy on the placement of roadside memorials in the ACT. The ACT Government recently made a commitment to develop a policy for the placement of roadside memorials. The policy will also outline how the views and impact on residents in adjacent properties are to be considered
