Legislative Assembly: Discussion Paper to Seek Feedback on Higher Density Residential Development Policies

Today the Standing Committee on Planning, Public Works and Territory and Municipal Services released a Discussion Paper on existing residential redevelopment policies in inner north Canberra. The Discussion Paper aims to inform submissions to the Committee’s current inquiry into RZ3 (Urban) and RZ4 (Medium Density) residential redevelopment policies. Canberra Times: Stanhope eyes ACT funds for parkway

The 30 January 2010 edition of the Canberra Times is reporting that the ACT Government has revealed for the first time that it is willing to provide $125 million of the estimated cost to construct the Majura Parkway. It has also revealed that it wishes to redirect the $30 million allocated from Infrastructure Australia to fund the initial portion of the Majura Parkway to other road projects in Fyshwick. There are another seven infrastructure projects in the ACT government’s infrastructure wishlist pitched at Infrastructure Australia. The article has been reproduced berlow:

ACT Policing: Drivers urged to slow down as school resumes

ACT Policing is reminding motorists to observe the posted speed restrictions around Canberra’s schools as children return to school this week. ACT Policing Traffic Superintendent Mark Colbran says the 40km/h school zones are designed to ensure that motorists are travelling at a speed which allows them to stay observant and stop safely when required, such as at school crossings and bus zones.

Revised Closing Date: Assembly Inquiry in to RZ3 and RZ4 Residential Development Policies (closing 26 February 2010)

In September 2009 the Standing Committee on Planning, Public Works and Territory and Municipal Services extended the closing date for submissions to the Inquiry into Inner North Residential Redevelopment Policies. The revised closing date for submissions is 26 February 2010 . The Committee has been preparing an Issues Paper which will be released shortly to assist individuals and organisations to understand the current Territory Plan provisions around RZ3 and RZ4 zones and other residential development policies related to this inquiry, which may also assist the drafting of submissions.

Canberra Times: Fears Duntroon ovals to be annexed (Majura Parkway)

The 16 January 2010 Canberra Times reports that the Department of Defence has concerns that the alignment of the proposed $250 million Majura Parkway will annex and displace existing Duntroon ovals and create noise problems for residential areas. This issue reenfoces the concerns that the Council has already made with regard to the propsed alignment of the Majura Parkway. ACT Policing: 24/7 patrols planned as police gear up for Summernats

ACT Policing is scheduling around-the-clock traffic enforcement patrols of the areas surrounding Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC) and additional patrols of the city’s entertainment precincts over the Summernats car festival period beginning today (Thursday, January 7). Police intend to clamp down rigorously on any irresponsible and/or dangerous driving behaviour and have issued a reminder to all motorists that under ACT legislation, police have the power to seize vehicles for burnouts, menacing driving or street racing on public roadways.
