Invitation to comment: Sustainable future workshop findings report (closing 28 February 2010)

ACTPLA has released the Sustainable future workshop findings report for public comment. The report contains key outcomes from a series of workshops held under the Sustainable future program. These workshops gathered together some of Australia’s leading thinkers, community members and government and industry representatives to draw out ideas on how to make our city and the ACT more sustainable, particularly in regard to future planning. Those ideas are synthesised in the report, which has been released so people in the community can provide ACTPLA with their feedback.

Crimestoppers: Suspicious fire, Dickson (29 November 2009)

ACT Policing is investigating the cause of a fire at Dickson early this morning. Just after 3.15am police were called to a block of commercial premises in Cape Street where a storeroom and restaurant was alight. Officers from ACT Fire Brigade extinguished the fire however the storeroom and restaurant sustained major damage. Neighbouring businesses also sustained some minor smoke damage. Invitation to comment: The ACT Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Strategy 2010–2014 (closing 28 February 2010)

The ACT Government has commenced a phase of community consultation to further the development of the draft ACT Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Strategy 2010-2014 the ACT’s next Drug Strategy and is currently seeking community input and comment.

Second-hand Sunday is a free community event that gives everyone an opportunity to give away or collect unwanted but useable items from homes across the ACT. Campbell residents potentially exposed to loose asbestos

ABC Online News and iPrime Canberra are reporting about potential asbestos exposure for residents in Campbell at the site of a house being demolished. There are disturbing reports that ACT Government agencies (ACTPLA and Office of Regulatory Services – Workcover) have been severely talking down the nature of the risks involved despite the fact that samples originating from the demolition project have been confirmed as asbestos and found in neighbouring driveways, yards and gutters.
