Crimestoppers: Face-fit image released of Lyneham burglary (8 February 2010)

ACT Policing are once again urging Canberra residents to review their home security measures, following a recent spike in burglaries in and around the inner-north suburbs of Braddon and Ainslie. Today (18 February 2010) police released a face-fit image of a male suspect responsible for a burglary in Lyneham on 8 February 2010. Between 7.30-9.30pm, the male offender gained entry to a property on Deburgh Street, and stole an Apple notebook computer, jewellery and some cash.

Invitation to Comment: Greater Canberra City Area Coordinated Action Plan 2010 – 2016 (closing 30 March 2010)

A discussion paper dealing with priorities for public investment in Canberra City, and its interface with adjoining suburbs, has been released for public comment. The Greater Canberra City Area Coordinated Action Plan 2010 – 2016 Report, which will help the ACT Government develop priorities for investing in improvements to public transport, roads, footpaths, parks and cycleways is open for comment until COB Tuesday 30 March 2010. Airservices Australia has published the draft Terms of Reference for the Airservices Australia review of Canberra Airport Noise Abatement Procedures. ACT Government Consultation Report: Working with Vulnerable People Checks

The ACT Government sought community comment on a proposed background checking system for people working with vulnerable people in the ACT. The closing date for submissions was 12 October 2009. The paper, A Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Checking System for the ACT, is the first step towards the ACT Government’s commitment to reducing the risk of sexual, physical, emotional or financial harm or neglect of vulnerable people, through the establishment of mandatory minimum background checking standards. There is currently no consistent process for background checking in the ACT.

Australian Early Development Index – Public Results Meetings (15 February & 1 March 2010)

The Australian Early Development Index (AEDI) is a national measure of how children are developing in communities at school entry. All ACT kindergarten children were surveyed in 2009 through a teacher completed checklist. Results for communities across Australia are available on the AEDI website. Meetings to share the North Canberra AEDI results with the northside community will be held at Northside Community Services, Rosevaar Place, Dickson on the following dates and times: Monday 15 February 2010 (9.00 to 10.30 am) Monday 1 March 2010 (7.00 to 8.30 pm) All community members interested in children’s development are welcome.
