ACT Government Infrastructure Plan 2010

The ACT Infrastructure Plan outlines short and medium-term infrastructure priorities over the next 10 years in a range of categories, including health, education, transport, housing and community services, justice and community safety, land development, and culture and the arts. The Plan also looks at long-term projects such as the Very Fast Train, and discusses the potential for new funding models for major infrastructure. The Plan has been informed by the views of the community and industry, through the Government’s budget consultation strategy, and also through a series of high-level roundtables. Corroboree Park management plan – Public Meeting (17 May 2010)

The ACT Government is hosting a public meeting with Ainslie residents to update them on the park management plan being developed for Corroboree Park. The park management plan, which is expected to be completed next month, and recognises the historic values of the park will outline the measures needed to maintain a healthy treed landscape for future generations. Keeping Canberra’s trees safe (May-August 2010)

The ACT Government advises the community that work is set to commence on Monday 3 May 2010 for the removal of dead and hazardous trees across Canberra. In all cases tree removal is the last option and the Government has first considered whether pruning or corrective tree surgery work could sensibly be undertaken. While most of the trees in this latest tree removal program are dead, largely as a result of the ongoing drought, some ‘green’ trees will be removed which have been assessed as posing an unacceptable safety risk to the public. New television recycling arrangements (from 27 April 2010)

From 27 April 2010, televisions will be banned from going to landfill and recycled for a fee at the Mitchell and Mugga Lane Resource Management Centres.The fee will cover the cost of recycling and will range from $15 to $40 per item, depending on its type and size. The scheme will divert around 200 tonnes of televisions from landfill each year and will continue until the National E-waste Scheme is introduced in 2011, which will provide for free e-waste recycling. Northbourne Avenue, London Circuit to undergo $7.6m upgrade

The following is an ACT Government Media Release: Northbourne Avenue, London Circuit to undergo $7.6m upgrade Released 18/03/2010 Two of Canberra’s busiest roads, Northbourne Avenue and London Circuit, will undergo significant safety improvements and maintenance over the next three months, Chief Minister and Minister for Transport, Jon Stanhope, said today. Roadworks on London Circuit start this week while the first stage of the Northbourne Avenue works commence next week. The entire works will be completed by mid-June 2010.

Changes to Parking Rules – effective 15 March 2010

Following updates to the Australian Road Rules, some changes have been made to parking rules in the ACT, effective 15 March 2010. Traffic rule changes have also been implemented. The parking changes relate to: stopping a vehicle on a painted island; parking in time limited areas; parking in a Road Related Area; and parking in marked bays.
