ACTPLA has engaged external consultants Purdon Associates to manage the Dickson Centre Planning Project. The study will guide future urban planning in the Dickson centre. It will include consultation with the community, community groups, business representatives and other stakeholders to develop a vision for the future of centre. Canberra Airport Master Plan approved: Aircraft noise a noted issue

ABC News Online and iPrime Canberra are reporting that today (28 August 2009) the Federal Minister for Transport, Anthony Albanese, has approved the Canberra Airport’s Master Plan including the establishment of a 24 hour freight hub. However it has been clearly noted, that despite the Canberra Airport claims and protestations otherwise, noise remains a significant issue that needs to be addressed. September is Business in Focus Month

Business in Focus Month is a new month-long program that will feature almost 70 events and highlights include the opportunity to speed date with master entrepreneurs and a weekend camp which will allow companies to brainstorm and develop new business strategies. During the month, Canberra businesses will be able to access information and service providers as well as attending networking opportunities that will assist them in building better businesses.

Canberra Times: QIC airs $350m proposal for Civic

On Saturday 1 August 2009, the Canberra Times ran an article alleging that QIC, owners of the Canberra Centre, had been land-banking prime real estate in the City. QIC have subsequently revealed  plans for a $350million mixed-use development including a tower of apartments facing Cooyong Street. Public Forums & Consultation: Supermarket Competition Policy Review (closing 24 July 2009)

On the 16 June 2009 the ACT Chief Minister announced the appointment of Mr John Martin to conduct a review of the current ACT Supermarket Competition policy. Mr Martin is a former Commissioner of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and was involved in the ACCC’s 2008 Retail Grocery Inquiry. Mr Martin will examine a range of issues as part of his review including the relevance of the ACT Government‘s supermarket competition policy in light of the outcomes of the ACCC Inquiry in to the competitiveness of retail prices for standard groceries.

Grants of up to $5,000 available under the 2009 Schools as Communities program

The ACT Minister for Children and Youth, has announced that grants of up to $5,000 are available under the 2009 Schools as Communities program Strategic Projects. Schools as Communities is an ACT Government program that works in identified ACT preschools and primary schools to support children, their families and teachers.
