ACT adapting to climate change

On 21 May the ACT Government has released Adapting to a changing climate: Directions for the ACT (PDF, 1.3 MB). The paper addresses the impact of climate change on health and wellbeing, disaster and emergency management, settlements and infrastructure, water, natural resources and ecosystems and agriculture. Planning and Development (Project Facilitation) Bill

This Bill proposes major changes to the process for Territory Plan variations. It was presented to the Legislative Assembly on 20 March and referred it to the Standing Committee on Planning, Environment and Territory and Municipal Services on 8 April. The Committee has invited public submissions, with a closing date of 22 April.

Braddon customer parking relief on the way

RETAILERS in Braddon’s trendy Lonsdale Street may be in for some relief from parking woes soon, with the ACT government negotiating with developers to free up spaces for customers to park. Canberra Business Council chief Chris Faulks said the area’s booming popularity and construction works had put such a squeeze on car parking that the government needed to step in.
