A group of local residents are interested in transforming the Watson Neighbourhood Oval into a community asset for all ages. Warren Saunders and his nursery staff are Canberra’s secret gardeners, responsible for creating much of the city’s landscape that’s taken for granted. They’ve propagated 350,000 seedlings to create 6ha of native plants along Anzac Parade, and literally got down and dirty in Mitchell’s urban wetlands, planting 150,000 native shrubs, grasses, and wildflowers. For a single revegetation project in the Brindabellas, they collected 900kg of native seed — and that’s just for the understorey plantings.

The NCCC, Watson Community Association, Friends of Mount Majura, The Conservation Council ACT Region and the Village Building Company have signed a deed of agreement to minimise environmental and traffic impacts associated with The Fair residential development on the Australian Heritage Village site in north Watson.
Both the Canberra Times and the City Chronicle have run articles outlining some of the concerns raised in the deed of agreement that has been entered in for the Australian Heritage Village site redevelopment. These articles have been reproduced below:
ABC News Online is reporting that an arrangement has been reached with the developer of the former Australia Heritage Village site in Watson. It is understood the changes to the development will help mitigate environmental impact on the Mount Majura Nature Reserve.
