City to the Lake – Seminars

The ACT Government has announced  the City to the Lake which is a transformational project being developed within The City Plan, and is integral to realising the City’s potential as the ACT embark on its second century. It is about creating a new public waterfront address and identity for the City.  It is about realising Commonwealth Park and City Hill as celebrated urban parks unified with the centre of the City.  The project connects the City across Parkes Way and includes several important civic projects. Temporary Interruption to Carparking in Dickson

Residents who use the short stay carpark situated opposite Woolworths in Dickson are advised By the ACt Government that due to site investigation work involving a geotechnical study of Block 21 Section 30 Dickson, use of parts of the carpark will be restricted from 3 December 2012. The work to be undertaken by geotechnical engineers will involve access to several car spaces per drill site which will be fenced off for the safety of motorists and pedestrians. Downer Local Centre Development

Downer residents are invited to view and comment on the revised draft plans for the development of the Downer local centre precinct. Residents can attend the following drop-in session: When: Wednesday 27 June 2012, 6:00pm to 8.30pm Where: Downer Community Centre. NCA Draft Amendment 75

National Capital Plan Draft Amendment 75 – Australian Defence Force Academy and Royal Military College Duntroon Master Plan has recently been prepared by the National Capital Authority. Written submissions in response to the Master Plan will be considered up until the close of business on 17 May 2012. Constitution Avenue upgrade consultation sessions

Community feedback is invited on the preliminary design plans for the upgrade of Constitution Avenue. In celebration of the Centenary of Canberra in 2013, the Australian Government has gifted $42 million to the ACT Government for the upgrade of Constitution Avenue. This project will deliver major transport infrastructure improvements including a dedicated bus lane in each direction, a separated cycle path, improved pedestrian facilities and a new central median planted with trees.

Assessment of the Performance of the Three Branches of Government in ACT against Latimer House Principles

On 15 March 2012, NCCC sent a submission to the Standing Committee on Administration and Procedure in regard to an Inquiry into the ACT Self Government Act. A number of recommendations have been made in response to the assessment of the performance of the three branches of government in the ACT, including that the number of MLAs should be increased, and the ACT Auditor General and Ombudsman should be made Officers of Parliament. The Standing Committee is considering holding public hearings in April to discuss matters raised in the submissions.

Downer Community Meeting – Redevelopment of the Downer Local Centre

A meeting will be held for all Downer residents, at 7pm on Wednesday 14 December at the Downer Community Centre, to discuss the redevelopment of the Downer local centre precinct.
