Invitiation to Comment: Play Space Renewal (closing 3 August 2008)

Territory and Municipal Services will be renewing seven play spaces across the ACT in the 2009-10 financial year. The Playground Safety Program is an ongoing capital works program that renews ACT play spaces in line with Australian and ACT Standards. A consultant will be engaged in August 2009 to prepare the design and manage the construction of the new play spaces. To inform the design of the renewed play spaces TAMS is seeking comment on the play space renewals. In the Inner North, the Cockle Street local play space is scheduled for renewal.

ABC News: Drivers stung with parking fee rise

ABC News is reporting the parking fees in Government Car Parks in the City West area will increase substantially from 6 July 2009: [youtube]VAlZd0gmHMA&rel=0&showsearch=1[/youtube] Parking fees for three of Canberra’s carkparks will nearly double from Monday. An all-day ticket at a City West car park, between Marcus Clarke Street and Gordon Street, will rise from $5 to $9.

It discusses the inadequate street lighting and lack of upgrades in the Inner North area. “This year’s ACT Budget figures show half a million dollars set aside for energy efficient streetlight upgrades. But in Canberra’s inner north, streets have yet to see the upgrades, and according to Territory and Municipal Services, they aren’t likely to in the near future.” 

Neighbourhood Street and Park Tree Replacement Program consultation (closing 18 June 2009)

Long term retention of formal street tree landscapes is important for Canberra’s ‘Garden City’ character to be maintained. Parks, Conservation and Lands of the Department of Territory and Municipal Services is committed to maintaining this tree landscape and a replacement program is a vital part of that maintenance. On behalf of Parks, Conservation and Lands, Scenic Landscape Architecture has undertaken an assessment of the long-term viability of trees in some streets and parks within the North Canberra area. Some of these will form part of the current package of works to be undertaken in the 2008-2009 Tree Replacement Program.

Roadworks creating problems for Pialligo residents and businesses

The ABC Canberra TV news provided the following report on the impact road construction and upgrades around the airport and entrance to the suburb of Pialligo is creating for residents and local businesses. Roads ACT have indicated that road-works should be complete by the end of July, but in the interim temporary traffic lights are being considered.   The North Canberra Community Council encourages residents and businesses to contact the Council if they continue to have problems with access to the suburb after the temporary traffic lights are installed or there are unreasonable delays in the implementation of these temporary …

Public housing tenant nominations sought for Joint Champions Group (closing 26 June 2009)

Housing ACT tenants are encouraged to apply to apply for membership of the 2009-11 Joint Champions Group. The Joint Champions Group, established in 2005, provides tenants with an opportunity to take part in and manage activities that contribute to the planning and delivery of housing services in the ACT.
